Since the advent of the home computer and the included graphic design software programs, almost everyone has access to software that can create labels, flyers, posters and business cards, but my experience has taught me that the weak link in this chain is usually the operator!
Effective graphic designing is a process that requires one to have great skills and techniques. Graphic design might look effortless, but it is worth noting that it requires a lot of focus to details. Consider the catching publication, advertisements or flyer that you liked. There must have been a reason why you like it and failed to like the other. There must have been a specific thing that you liked about font, cool graphic or layout. Making great graphics require you to apply the right strategies. Here are some great graphic design tips you should apply.
Choose the right font treatment
When it comes to fonts in graphic designing, more is not better. You need to select at most two type faces per document. One should be for the headlines and the other one for the body of the document. The most important thing is to use a clean, simple font to enhance readability. Your headlines fonts should be more creative. For more emphasis on certain words, you can use boldface, italics or underlining.
Make use of the white space in the right manner
Just because you have ample space does not mean that you must fill it when doing the graphic designing. A great graphic design should have well planned wide space. The white space is necessary because it gives the eyes a break and assists in highlighting the vital points. Ensure that you have enough space around the edges and between the columns. To get more ideas and inspirations, you can check on well designed magazines, computer templates and ads.
Find great photos and graphics
When doing graphic designing, it is always advisable to make use of moderate graphics. It is better to have a single graphic that is great than having five that are weak. When you use photos and graphics, you should ensure that they illustrate the point you want to make. Never use them just to take up space. In addition, you should make sure that they have a size that is right for the space that you have.
Let the graphic element illustrate your major points. This is the first thing that your readers see, so it is vital to portray your message in an accurate manner. Do not mix wide range of styles of illustration, it is vital to be consistent to create harmony.
Keep copy neat and short
Readers will be attracted to short sentences and paragraphs. You should break up large blocks of the text using subheadings and bullet points. You should make sure that you have someone else go through your work so that if there are mistakes, they can be detected in your graphic designs.
Check the flow
People like graphic designs that have a great flow. In most cases, people usually read your page from top to bottom and from left to right. Make sure that you draw people into the top left corner of your graphic design by using a strong graphic. This will make your graphic design attract a lot of readers.
One other point worth noting is that good graphic design always needs to get your attention, but it also needs to make you take action, whether it is buying a product, or calling a number. Whatever it may be, the action is probably the most important part of the process. It is all well and good having a pretty flyer, but if nobody takes any action after seeing it, then it was a worthless exercise, and the only way I can think of that you will know if your design is going to work or not is by experience. Thats it!
